Session & Committee Updates
June 7, 2020
As you know, we held a Town Hall immediately following the service today, June 7. The Pastor Search Committee reviewed the selection process and announced the name of our final Pastor Candidate.
The process included four interview rounds:
Round 1: Two teams reviewed the candidate application packages, listened to sermons and conducted initial interviews. The committee met and reviewed and accepted the team recommendations. Five candidates moved forward to Round 2.
Round 2: PSC co-chairs reviewed applicant packages, listened to sermons and reviewed Round One interviews. All five candidates were moved forward to Round 3.
Round 3: This interview included the entire committee and Josh Eby, the consultant engaged to assist with the process. These interviews involved more deeply theological and church life questions intended to help the committee identify the final candidate(s). These interviews were approximately 3 hours long.
Round 4: Round 4 included a Session review of the committee’s final candidate and they were in unanimous support of the committee recommendation. The committee met with the Session and then met for the final vote. The vote was unanimous.
The committee is recommending Josh Harp as our pastoral candidate. Several factors influenced our recommendation:
- Committee members and the Session were approached by a number of congregants expressing support for Josh and that he be considered as a candidate. The initial statement that the interim would not be a candidate came from a recommendation to Josh Hahne from a friend who has filled pulpits on an interim basis. It was not a ‘rule’ established by the PCA or the Presbytery. The Session asked that he be considered as a candidate-not the candidate.
- During the interview process Josh set himself apart with his thoughtful answers to questions, his obvious preparation for every interview and his love for the church and her people.
- His willingness to go above and beyond the requirements of the role of interim pastor.
- His appreciation for the traditional and historically Reformed pattern of worship that is part of the life of King of Kings.
Next steps
- 6/14 – Next week Josh will be here for a town hall meeting and will respond to questions.
- 6/28 – The congregational vote to confirm Josh as our lead pastor
- Presbytery approval of selection
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact a member of the PSC. We pray you are pleased with the result of our labor, and we are grateful for your prayers and support through the process.

PASTORAL SEARCH CONSULTANT – The Session is pleased to announce that we have chosen to contract with a PCA consultant named Josh Eby to be our Pastoral Search Consultant. We have talked with two different PCA churches who worked with two different consultants and both were very pleased with the services rendered and highly recommended our working with a consultant in our search for a new Senior Pastor. Mr. Eby comes highly recommended and will work closely with our Pastoral Search Committee beginning with helping the Elders to select a slate of King of Kings members to put before the congregation for election to our Pastoral Search Committee. Eby has worked with about 15 churches helping them in the hard but very rewarding task of searching for a pastoral candidate to present to the congregation for consideration. Shortly, we will introduce Mr. Eby to you and ask that you pray for him as he comes aboard as our Pastoral Search Consultant.
MEMBER NOMINATIONS FOR PASTORAL SEARCH COMMITTEE – For the next three weeks, we will be accepting member nominations for the Pastoral Search Committee. All nominations must be submitted by the close of the worship service on November 10th. A nomination form, defining the criteria for this committee and their responsibilities, as well as instructions for submitting nominations is available in the Narthex or download a copy of the Nomination Form.
Completed nomination forms must be submitted via the collection boxes located on the sides of the Worship Hall or via email at pastoralsearch@kkchurch.org.

FROM YOUR ELDERS:
We deeply appreciate your thoughts and prayers regarding our pastoral search process. As this process moves along, we would like to keep you updated on this journey in order to bring this process in prayer before the Lord together.
This last weekend, you may have noticed a guest with us named Josh Eby. He is a pastor in Austin, Texas, who knows our beloved founding pastor Josh Hahne very well. He also consults with churches that are in a pastoral transition and has much valuable experience in these matters. He has come to us highly recommended from a couple varied but trusted sources. With this in mind, we made the decision to bring him in for a weekend, so we could sit with him and discuss our transition. The elders met with him at length on Saturday evening and then on Sunday afternoon invited the entire Leadership Team (elders, deacons, and staff) to join as we met with Josh Eby for a second time. We received a great deal of information, and will be continuing to prayerfully consider our options as we go forward.
This coming Sunday, September 29, our session will be available immediately following our worship service in the sanctuary for a time of Q&A regarding the Pastoral Search Process. We invite you to join us for this time and bring your pertinent questions.
As always, we look to our Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ, and are especially reminded of His love and care for us as we are without a long-term under shepherd.
